Summer is still in full swing, and there’s no better plan than a relaxing dip in the sea. Fortunately, Spanish coastal municipalities offer increasingly more dog-friendly beach options. This year, there are 110 pet-friendly beaches, so your furry friend can accompany you on a beach vacation or day trip for some fun in the sun.

Let’s dive into a dog-friendly beach paradise!

Some of the most recommended beaches are:

Platja de la Rubina – Girona, Catalonia:

Located along the Costa Brava, Platja de la Rubina has earned its reputation as one of the best dog-friendly beaches in Spain since 2012. Here, your dogs can run freely in the sand and enjoy a dip in the sea. Plus, this beach has a campsite where pets are welcome.

Platja de Llevant – Barcelona, Catalonia:

If you’re in Barcelona and you want to enjoy a day at the beach with your pet, Platja de Llevant is the perfect spot. In 2016, a section of the urban beach was set up for dogs to safely enjoy the sea and sand.

Playa de la Canina – Torre del Mar, Málaga:

In the south of Spain, Playa de la Canina in Torre del Mar is a true paradise with a long section of the coast reserved exclusively for dogs to run and play with no restrictions. This beach has facilities such as play areas for dogs, special trash containers and lots of shade.

Playa de Agua Amarga – Alicante:

Also known as “Doggy Beach”, this spot is located between Alicante and Urbanova. It has a large parking lot with easy access, as well as a beach bar to keep yourself and your dog hydrated.

Playa de Llenaire – Port de Pollença, Mallorca:

Although this beach has rocks and stones, Llenaire is one of the most visited beaches on the island.
It’s a unique space with a large section of pine trees where you can relax in the shade with your dog.

When we visit these incredible beaches with our dogs, it’s important to keep their wellbeing in mind during the hottest hours of the day. Although the beaches are adapted for them, high temperatures and intense sun exposure can be dangerous. That’s why we don’t recommend taking your dog to the beach in the heat of the day. One way to protect your pet from the heat is to visit the beach first thing in the morning or later in the afternoon when the sun isn’t scorching. This will guarantee a safe and pleasant experience for everyone.

There’s no doubt that Spain offers a large quantity of incredible beaches where our beloved pets can enjoy freedom and fun in the water. From the Costa Brava to the Costa del Sol, from the Cantabric sea to the Atlantic, there are options for every taste. Remember to always consult local rules and keep the space clean so everyone can enjoy these wonderful places. Have a fantastic beach vacation with your pet!
