Special food for the residents at Animals Sense Sostre
We started the year with some very good news: the three kings didn’t forget about the dogs at Animals Sense Sostre. They brought 18 bags of special food for those dogs who have special dietary needs.
This gift was made possible thanks to the people at Comercial Global Payments, who we’ll have the pleasure of meeting in a few months on a teambuilding day, which will take place in April.
The team at Comercia made a 690€ donation, which we were able to use to buy bags of special food for the dogs with digestive issues, intolerances, or sensitive skin. Below we would like to explain which gifts the kings brought and who they were given to.
Food is super important at an animal shelter
Damas (who you can see in the photo above) and Spider have a bacteria of the skin which causes sensitivity and irritation. These breeds of dog tend to have more sensitive skin than other long-haired dogs and they tend to have dermatological issues. To minimize the effects of the bacteria, they need a special dermatological food for skin with allergies and other issues. This helps to keep their symptoms under control and ensure they get the nutrients they need.
Vibbor is another dog with special needs. In his case, it’s due to his gluten intolerance and sensitive stomach. After testing many different foods, we found the one that works. It’s made with potato and salmon and is perfect for gluten intolerance. Since he started on this food, his upset stomach has gone away, and he has much more energy!
We also bought gastrointestinal food, which many of the dogs at Animals Sense Sostre eat. Gastrointestinal food allows dogs with intestinal problems or high stress (living at the shelter doesn’t help) to be able to eat without later having diarrhea and to better absorb the nutrients they need.
Mendo is a wonderful dog with a kidney disorder, which is under control. He needs a specific diet because he’s also an active dog and needs a big dose of energy. After trying many different foods, we’ve found the perfect one for him. Since he’s been eating it, he’s gained some weight back and is feeling much better.
Lumiere only tolerates a special dermatological food due to his grain allergy. He also has very sensitive skin and since he started on this diet, he’s gained some weight and has much more energy. He really is the sweetest.
A proper diet is so important for the health of a dog and, if that dog has special needs, it’s important to meet those needs with a special and personalized diet. This is the way it should be for all dogs, but it’s especially important in shelters where stress levels are high, and it can drastically affect a dog’s health.
That’s why we want to thank Comercia from the bottom of our hearts for their donations, which allowed us to purchase two months’ worth of special food for the dogs at Animals Sense Sostre. We appreciate you!!!

Why sponsor?
We’ve collaborated with Animals Sense Sostre for some years now, and we’ve seen firsthand the difficulties they have to find adoptive families for some dogs. The is due to their breed or special needs. They may have some behavioral problems or need specific food or medication. Some dogs at Animals Sense Sostre will probably spend years at the shelter or never be adopted. This is why we are offering the opportunity to sponsor them and help us cover their expenses.
How can you collaborate with Voluntarios Itinerantes?
Voluntarios Itinerantes is a group of people who respond to the needs of various animal shelters in Catalonia. We work for animal welfare in shelters and sanctuaries. In all shelters, the needs are similar, but the priorities are not. In some they need us to walk the dogs and facilitate their socialization; in others they prefer that we clean and tidy up the facilities thoroughly. There are those who turn to us because they need medicine or food, and it is not uncommon for them to call us to build fences or create spaces where animals can live better. We form teams and move to where we are most needed!
